Largest Utility in the Carolinas Awards IDModeling with Wastewater Hydraulic Modeling and Capacity Analysis Contract
Pasadena, CA USA, June 4, 2009 - With more than 774,000 customers, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities (CMU) is the largest water and wastewater service utility in the Carolinas. CMU operates as a department within the City of Charlotte (NC), providing high quality water and wastewater services to homes, businesses and industries in Mecklenburg County. With 5 wastewater treatment plants with a capacity of 123 mgd, the CMU system consists of 74 lift stations and over 4,028 miles of pipe. CMU’s progressive use of technology and focus on sustainability has earned them internationally recognized awards in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), environmental planning/management, and the National Gold Award for Competitiveness. CMU continues this technology-driven focus with their competitive selection of IDModeling to develop a dynamic wastewater model followed by a comprehensive capacity assessment.
Following an extensive selection process, which included the consideration of several global, ENR Top 50 consulting firms, IDModeling was one of two firms selected that demonstrated expertise in hydraulic modeling, a proven track record, and a dedication to working with CMU to advance their hydraulic model for the utility’s use in the future.

This benchmark project includes developing hydraulic model standards, temporary flow monitoring, GIS data conversion, model building, calibration, long-term flow simulation, and system performance modeling. All hydraulic modeling work will be performed using Wallingford Software’s InfoWorks CS.
