Water Master Plan

The Challenge:
The City of Orange and Carollo Engineers embarked on a project to develop a Water System Master Plan for the City.
This comprehensive plan needed to include the creation of a hydraulic model tightly linked to the City’s existing GIS.
The model must also support a 1:1 relationship between hydraulic model and the City’s Geodatabase.

The Solution:
Using MWH Soft InfoWater, IDModeling implemented project database templates with nearly 300 predefined queries, query sets and several ready-to-work scenarios.
The model incorporated over 26,000 pipes with nearly 100 scenarios and several hundred query statements designed to support City engineers better analyze system efficiency.
Once created, IDModeling performed extensive quality assurance checks of the City’s GIS with the help of InfoWater’s topology correction tools. At model completion,
IDModeling led the task for steady-state calibration which included calibrating on 288 points across the City’s 11 pressure zones. Calibration was achieved well within
the project tolerance for over 97% of the 288 points.
Following model delivery to the City, IDModeling provided a 4-day, project specific InfoWater training course to key City staff to explain model tools and functionality,
particularly query generation and application, practical “real-world” scenario implementations and troubleshooting of model/GIS topology issues which may arise in the future
as the City maintains its GIS and model relationship.
