SOFTWARE EVALUATIONS
As in any job, the right tools have a direct impact on the execution and results of the project. Hydraulic modeling is no exception and the decision on which software to use may have direct impacts on the quality, timing, and ability to perform work.

IDModeling is experienced and proficient with the functionality of various hydraulic modeling software packages. Our staff brings a practical perspective to modeling software expectations vs. capabilities and measures those based on your specific needs.
Some examples of criteria which we’ve experienced as important when selecting a hydraulic model software package for today’s modeling work (aside from cost):

• Usability – User Friendliness
• Solving/Converging Capabilities
• Use & Application of Scenario Management
• GIS Integration
• Openness of Database
• Speed
• Technical Support
• ...more

IDModeling will work with our clients to develop a needs-specific set of criteria, engage each software vendor, review the software based on the established criteria, query technical support, and perform other Evaluation services as necessary to provide a comprehensive assessment.

SOFTWARE CONVERSIONS
Current software programs provide much more functionality than those which were commonly used several years ago: Scenario Management, Facility Sets, and Query Abilities just to name a few. Additionally, the ability to maintain data has increased dramatically with the evolution of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), allowing both utilities and consultants the opportunity to create larger, faster, more accurate hydraulic models. As a result, there may be several significant, justified reasons to upgrade legacy hydraulic model software and data sets.

IDModeling provides conversion services to transfer data which has been input to a previous software to a new, upgraded software. The transfer of data may occur using a variety of data transfer techniques. Some of these methods may include:

• EPANET
• GIS Shapefiles
• MapInfo Files (MID/MIF)
• Generate Files
• Open Database Connectivity (ODBC)
• Comma SEPArated Value files (CSV)
• …other

IDModeling provides services for Complete Model Conversion, in additional to the basic transfer of files. Additional Conversion services from previous software packages may include the following:

  • Running of the model to confirm similar results (note: results will not be identical due to different software program engines and solving techniques)
  • Transfer and recreation of Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs)
  • Development of Additional Scenarios
  • Enhancement of Data Sets Query Tools (where applicable) such as standard queries for diameters, material, years of installation, pressures.
  • ...more.
